<p>Panel discussion &#8211; Theme: <strong>Grassroots Responses to the Economic and Environmental Crises</strong></p>
<p>Featuring:</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Beenash Jafri</strong> was one of the founding members of the Anti-Racist Environmental Coalition (AREC) and continues to write and present on environmental justice issues. She&#8217;s currently a PhD candidate in women&#8217;s studies at York University, Toronto. Her research interests include: critical race/antiracism studies, postcolonial theory, critical feminism/gender studies, indigenous studies, identity politics, environmental justice, social movements and coalition building. See co-authored article &#8216;<a href="http://briarpatchmagazine.com/514/">Green is not the only colour</a>&#8216;</li>
<li><strong>Ben Powless</strong> (<a href="http://www.ourclimate.ca/">Canadian Youth Climate Coalition</a>, <a href="http://www.ienearth.org/">Indigenous Environmental Network</a>) &#8211; A Mohawk young person from Six Nations (currently a student at Carleton University)  involved in organizing the <a href="http://powershiftcanada.org/">Power Shift Canada 2009 conference</a> (Ottawa, Oct 23-26), addressing climate change and a just transition to a &#8216;green&#8217; society / economy.</li>
<li><strong>Carlo Fanelli</strong> has been a part-time employee with the City of Toronto for the past 10-years and is currently a PhD candidate at Carleton University. Involved with an initiative aiming to organize working class communities in Toronto, he will discuss the origin, process and outcome of the recent <strong><a href="http://workersolidarity.blogspot.com/2009/05/fall-conference-2009_16.html">Toronto Workers&#8217; Assembly</a></strong>, as well highlight future plans and aims of its participants.</li>
